				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Few things in life have taught me more than training for and running a marathon.  It seems like I am learning &#8211; or relearning something &#8211; every time I go for a run.  Unfortunately, I came to be a marathoner later than many.  Although, I&#8217;m not sure I would&#8217;ve even noticed the lessons had I experienced them sooner than I have.  It&#8217;s all about timing, right?</p>
<p>When I first started training, I did so for someone else &#8211; to support a friend.  If you start training for this reason, you won&#8217;t last long.  You will find any and every excuse to quit.  You must have an inner drive.  There must be a reason that keeps you going that&#8217;s about YOU, not someone else.  Your reason must be inside of you because when you have to dig deep, there had better be something down there to find and draw upon to give you what you need to finish.  </p>
<p>Marathon training is a big commitment and your &#8220;why&#8221; must be strong. My first &#8220;why&#8221; was &#8220;I am not a quitter&#8221;.  I had already registered for the Chicago Marathon and did not have a viable reason to stop, like an injury or a physical condition that would make training unwise or impossible. And let&#8217;s not forget that registration fee!  I sure wasn&#8217;t going to waste my money!  Therefore, I had to continue.  </p>
<p>Luckily, along the way, I picked up more &#8220;whys&#8221; to keep me motivated.  I felt better.  I had more energy.  I knew I was healthier.  I had a sense of accomplishment.  I had some time for me, in a world where I gave most of myself away.  I had a bigger sense of peace and contentment than I&#8217;d had in a very long time.  I found many reasons not to quit.  I found my &#8220;why&#8221;.</p>
<p>One of the challenges of marathon training is hanging in there.  You can&#8217;t train for a marathon overnight.  It takes weeks and weeks of consistent training &#8211; early mornings, long runs, a commitment to get it done.  Stay on course, be consistent and you&#8217;ll arrive and the starting line ready.  Step off of the path of consistent training, opt for sleeping in, skip a few long runs and you slowly slide into a ditch.  Staying on course each day is a step in the right direction.  String enough of those days together and you&#8217;ve got it.</p>
<p>The only way to quit during a marathon is to stop moving.  If you just keep going, you will finish.  When I have one of our participants say to me, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know how I&#8217;m going to do this!&#8221;, my response is usually, &#8220;Just keep moving!  Keep putting one foot in front of the other.&#8221;.  It sounds simple, but it&#8217;s not easy.  It takes focus an desire to push on through a roadblock in your mind.  </p>
<p>There are many lessons along the way and some of them take a while to learn.  Once again, if you keep at it and keep moving, eventually, you will learn what you need to learn and move on &#8211; but you&#8217;ll never get through it if you stop moving!</p>
<p>Lesson #1 &#8211; Just don&#8217;t quit!  If you keep moving, you will get there.  There is only one way to that finish line &#8211; forward. On your own two feet.  </p>

<p>What should you do? Don&#8217;t go it alone. Join an online fitness community that can help you stay the course and create a healthier you. Here are 5 ways that an online fitness group can help you succeed in your fitness goals:</p>

When you have a group of people that are moving toward the same goal and are committed to sticking to healthy habits, everyone can encourage and motivate each other. Recently, we came across an article by the Mayo Clinic staff that outlined the <a href="http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/womens-health/WO00014" target="_blank">seven threats</a> to women&#8217;s health and what you can do to prevent them. Here they are&#8230;</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Heart Disease</strong>- it&#8217;s not just a man&#8217;s world when it comes to problems with the old ticker. Heart disease is the number one, preventable health risk for women. What can you do to prevent it?
<ul>
<li>Don&#8217;t smoke</li>
<li>Eat a healthy diet</li>
<li>Manage chronic conditions</li>
<li>Include physical activity in your daily routine</li>
<li>Maintain a healthy weight</li>
<li>Limit alcohol</li>
<li>Manage stress</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><strong>Cancer</strong>- Some types of cancer are a concern to women, including breast cancer, lung cancer, skin cancer and colorectal cancer. Consider these general tips to reduce your risk of cancer:
